Dear first child

Dear first child

(Or acting first child)

If you take a deep breath, you won’t die

I know that you intend to set things right

I know that you aspire to break the chains of old time.

I pray that you find the courage to become your dreams.

I hope that in breaking chains, you don’t become the chain that needs to break.

I hope you don’t become rigid in the process of meeting needs.

I hope you get the courage to try new things.

I pray that you still hold in your heart, the space of others.

I hope that you dodge the toxic explanation of bearing responsibilities.

You need the world and the world needs you, but you would never find yourself if you lack the ability to think things through.

Perhaps, it isn’t really true. (What they say about you)

It’s okay to find yourself

I want you to know that if you grow you, you won’t divide the family into two.

I hope that in setting an example, you do not bruise your heart.

May you find the strength to not crush your inside.

May finances sit right in your hand.

May you learn humility and never be timid in a space where you ought to cry.

May you never push away the ability to grieve your loved ones when they are put in the grave. (Quit hiding when tears rolls off your face)

Remember not to be the one that cries just on the pillow case. (We might need your weakness in open space)

You are human. You are first.

Process it, we want your strength, but in giving us that, extend your weakness. (We long to feel your heart)

Seasons are transitioning, we cannot grieve without reasoning.  (We want a generation that extends sympathy)

Teach us first, how to love.

We will grow and restore humanity by seeing tracks of your blood.

Dear first child (or you acting as one)

What is your greatest fear?

Take a break

And try something better (this time, without fear)

It’s okay to not get it right. (Allow us believe in you)

Take all the time (don’t forget we look up to you)

Dear first child, be our hero as you find your path. (For we are a part of your path).

Olu ❤️
