The unknown cage of spirits
Early November 2018: I walked down the streets of West Chestnut ( which I pronounce cheesnat) in my long blue jean and my long black dress with green shades of flowers, the dress stood above my knees; it was long enough to blow away some of the wind for it was winter but it wasn't snowing. I had on my 4inches heels as I headed to the office for a meeting. I had no backpack because I didn't have a laptop yet. I faked a smile at passerbys as I held my coat over my body and tightly to my chest with another hand, I was fuming in anger because the meeting was not necessary or so i thought. Just then, she bumped into me. This lady whose name I never asked and would never know because it was our first and last meeting. In a bloody red top, braids which fell over most part of her face and black pants. I noticed she had no coat or jacket. What an act of bravery!! Sell me your survival spirit, I said to myself. She snapped me out of my thoughts by screaming over my face. Hey hey, hey girl!!. Me; in my mind, who is your girl? Do you know who I am? Please ooo, don't stain my struggle..I ignored. She seems lousy but original. She screamed again, I see you, oh, I see you girl. Me; to myself, have they slapped this one before abi breeze aff blown in her head? Who do you see🙄? You see me ri?. All of a sudden, she grabbed my hand and made me stay still. I panicked while I wondered to punch her, just Incase. I was annoited, I still am but my default settings is pouring sand in people's mouth and there was no sand because the cold has made it vanish. So, I gave her the ogbeni please be guided look, which she doesn't seem to know. Well, we might do it the old school way; smack down. She ruined the battle in my head as she stared at me from head to toe while she kept saying; girl, I see you, oh, I see the trick. Me; to myself, what trick?😕. She kept looking and she finally said, I see you from Africa. Me; to myself, how is that a trick? This girl is the pirated copy of a person, so much joy over a dress, so much drama, what is it kwa? Me; to her, I am Nigerian......
Girl, that's the spirit, she replied. Me; to myself, spirit woo? Pele oo, madam akudaya. Apparently, she was just getting started. Stranger: I see the trick, you tryna hide the style behind the coat, come on girl, show the world, we got blood. Me; to myself, ose, vampire. Tryna hide osi wo? Cold shu kee me because of swag? Egbami mahn. I didn't know when I started to laugh out loud. Which kain person be this. She also laughed as turned to the other side of the street, without looking at me, she screamed *go be all you can be girl, love you* and that made me laugh. I crossed to the other side of the street and as I walked down i was humming; you can love me now, don't love me later by lil.kesh. ....
I took couple of more steps and as I typed in the code to unlock the door, I screamed; owo epo nibo kosi. Nobody heard, nobody could have heard, maybe the girl might have. I remembered all of it, because I just saw a lot of people running through the silent cage where I met the screaming spirit. 🌹❣. I miss the unknown. 🤦🏾♀
