WHEN YOU HOLD ME
When you hold me, please hold me
tight enough that it erases all of my wrongs.
When you say you love me, please mean
it well enough that it erases all my hurts.
When you stare at me, see beyond my walls.
When you touch me, please be gentle;
I’ve been bruised too much.
When you hug me, please stay a
little longer than usual.
My body is learning to belong
in your skin, it hates to see you leave.
When I hurt you, please find the
courage to tell me.
Don’t resent me, I’ve had one that broke me.
When I don’t speak your language,
teach me, tell me, help me;
my purpose is to love you completely.
When I make you laugh, let me know.
I’d like to know I brought you joy.
Tell me one word to remember you by,
if my memory ever went off stand by!
When I hurt you, let me know.
Don’t cover up your wounds.
When you no longer know
how to love me, ask me; allow
me teach you.
It doesn’t make you less a fit for me.
When you get ready to leave,
if this isn’t for you,
find the strength to be honest with me.
I’d like to leave knowing the
truth was all you said to me.
