Daddy’s girl
It was 11:30pm when my five year old daughter started yelling “daddy, daddy”, after 30minutes of saying to her “daddy is coming”, I snapped at her. If you don’t sit your butts down, Amanda, I would give you a reason to stop that drama of yours.
From that moment, I could only hear the breath of the air conditioner and mines. Mommy, my daughter called after a short silence. Her eyes were teary and she kept staring at me.
I am sorry baby, I said as I drew her closer. Mommy is sorry, but you need to learn to listen to mommy when she says stop, okay? I informed her. She looked at me and nodded. I am sorry baby, I said again. This time, she rested on my laps, I grinned. Daddy would be home soon.
Daddy would not be home soon, I knew but I dare not say that to amanda. It is as though she shared a placenta with her father. Okay Angel, he’d call her anytime. Angel of Light was what we used to call her in my womb. When we birthed her, Daniel chose to call her Angel, I picked light. Whenever we are together, If her father says Angel, she says of and I say light.
Oh, I am very much aware Daniel wouldn’t be spending the night with us, should Amanda find out, my head would be turned with screams of daddy. I watched as she shut her eyes. I convinced myself that I just told a white lie.
12:36am, my phone rang. The screen read “honey man”, I took a deep breath and picked it up. Hey baby, I sighed. Hey honey, my husband responded with a smile. I make you blush, now and always, yeah? Well, I admit, he responded and laughed. Baby troubles? he asked.
Big baby troubles, she wouldn’t stop saying daddy, I had to make her stop, I told him. Did you whoop her, he asked with a grin. I wouldn’t dare, just a snap, I false a smile. I miss you, I murmured. I miss you too, baby. I would be home first thing in the morning, I’ve got so much gifts and talks for you, he consoled me. I am excited. I love you baby, I am tired and I need to rest, I said as I yawned. I love you, sugar. Kiss Angel good night for me. Good night baby. The call ended.
